today I started my quest for a healthier life and keep good on my one little word. on January 12th I removed all the junk off the treadmill, dusted it off and started walking. I was not excited about it, but you know what, it wasn't that bad. I actually enjoyed it. I started out slow and every few days I built up my speed and today I'm running! all I really wanted to do was to just keep walking, keep moving, but I surprised myself and found that I wanted to do better. to push myself. my goal is to run for 30 minutes straight without stopping. I'm at 20 minutes right now and have gotten up to 25 minutes but that's pushing it. now that spring is here and we're starting to get some nicer weather, I can walk/run outside and that motivates me. about a month ago I discovered the Nike+ app for my Itouch and that is helping me a lot with keeping on my miles and pace. I have to say that the hardest part about getting started was making the time for it. it meant removing one hour of my day and changing my routine. that was hard for me. lucky for me, my work schedule allows me to walk/run in the morning before getting ready for work without having to wake up any earlier. sometimes it's only four times a week, but most weeks it's five or six. there have been a few days that my schedule forced me to walk/run in the afternoon. that was okay too but not as convenient.

I've lost 15 pounds and I'm half way to my goal and if I lose another 10 beyond that, that would be a bonus! I'm not dieting (I have no willpower for that nonsense). I'm just eating healthier. I'm watching my portions (I love to eat and I had a problem with knowing when to stop eating), cut down on snacks (a lot), and choose healthy foods. Sometimes I'll even give up french fries for a salad but I still have my one piece of Godiva chocolate every day after dinner (which probably explains why I've only lost 15 pounds in three months). you know what the best part of all this is? going shopping for some summer clothes, trying clothes on in your old size and finding them too big, and asking the salesperson to bring you everything in a size smaller! or how about pulling out your summer clothes from last year that you never wore because they were too tight but you didn't want to get rid of and now they fit! woohoo!

Congrats to you!! Keep up the good work. Wish I had that motivation and will power. And I share your sentiment about dieting :)
